30 Day Art Challenge, Day 25: Fave Place in Your Home

We’ve lived in a number of places since moving overseas, and with another move planned for February, I think I define ‘home’ differently than someone else might.  Essentially, where we are now is not a permanent anything, merely a place we are occupying.  I know that sounds brutal, but that is the reality.  I’m sure I will miss this place when we leave it, but other than it’s functionality and access to where I work, there is nothing memorable.

Having lived in a high rise previous to moving to Abu Dhabi, it’s nice to be on the first floor of an apartment and that our cat can enjoy the outdoor space practically all the time (you’ve already seen her this week).  We’ve also been able to grow basil, mint, tomatoes, and limes.

IMG_4772This terrace is also a place where we’ve taught numerous people how to saber champagne (it’s my party trick).

Where’s your favorite place in your home?

30 Day Art Challenge, Day 16: Favorite Skyline

I’ve been fortunate to live in some great cities and visit many others – but I do love the Dubai skyline!  I’ve chosen this angle because it includes the building Hubs and I lived in for years, as well as the first building I worked in (circa 2007) – the Emirates Towers (my favorite buildings).  It does NOT include the Burj Khalifa, unless, y’know, you count that it was taken from the tallest building in the world…

30 Day Art Challenge, Day 14: Favorite Fairytale

Having recently ripped through Marissa Meyer’s ‘updated’ versions of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel, I think I have a new appreciation for fairytales.  However, I think I would turn to mythology, and, as a nod to my favorite fandom (*SailorMoon*cough*), I like the story of Selene and Endymion, which is equal parts romantic and tragic (with a little bit of a goddess taking advantage of a mortal).  I think it’s the nuanced unrequited love thing that appeals to me.

Pierre-Narcisse Guérin. (Technically Iris and Morpheus, but you get the idea…)

What’s your favorite fairytale?

30 Day Art Challenge, Day 13: Favorite Movie Character

Great question!  For anyone who’s been around my blog for awhile, I don’t think you’ll be surprised with my answer.

Ewan McGregor’s Christian is one of my very favorite characters ever.  He can sing.  He can dance.  He can write.  He loves deeply.  Clearly, I love Baz Luhrman and practically everything about this film.  As a Ewan fangirl, I think the choices he’s made in his career are really interesting ones – the variety of characters he’s played and his approach are usually worth watching.
